Steve has been working in restaurants off and on since he was 15 (a wicked long time ago!). He holds an MBA from Northeastern University and a BA from Harvard University’s Extension School. He once wore real funky glasses with lots of bling.
Marie, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, holds a BSN from the University of Massachusetts. She is currently working as a Clinical research nurse at MGH. She has a background in the arts and art history, and has many many many years experience in the food service industry. In her abundant spare time she enjoys reading, the Red Sox, traveling and Rambunctious Rumbles with Jack (see below).

Mascot and all-around cute puppy

Jack is a Boston terrier. He is a HUGE Red Sox fan and was born during the pivotal ALDS Series against the Yankees. He enjoys his ball, other dogs, licking, and cuddling. Occasionally he barks like a duck. It’s very strange.
Charles Maxwell Feldmann
Assistant Mascot
pups@GuluGuluCafe.com
Charlie is a pure blooded pug and proud of it! Currently Charlie is the full-time Space Pug mascot at our sister shop Flying Saucer Pizza Company. His interests include chewing on grass, furniture, Jack’s toys, and Steve’s fingers. He also enjoys chasing Jack around the house and waking Steve & Marie up in the middle of the night. He snores. A lot.
Louie Feldmann
Mascot-in-training
pups@GuluGuluCafe.com
Lou is a 3 year old French Bulldog mix from deep in the heart of Texas. He was rescued from a household that just didn’t appreciate his tremendous demeanor and so we decided to welcome him into our home. Since Charlie has been spending the majority of his mascot duties as the Space Pug at our sister shop (Flying Saucer) Louie has immediately begun his training under the tutulage of our Boston Terrier Jack!
Laura
General Manager
laura@GuluGuluCafe.com
Laura began at the Gulu as a waitress in graduate school recovering from her 10 years working in publishing. She immediately became at home and then the Gulu took over. Her daughter is very forgiving — you can spot her around the cafe from time to time. Make sure to say hi when you see her! She’d love to hear what you think.
April
Kitchen Manager

I have a need for constant laughter & possess a ridiculous sense of humor…seriously, what you hear is often not what you would expect. Crayola, nature, family & friends are my passions. I have an wide open mind, love thunderstorms, & really, really, really like flip-flops. Knowing that my gypsy days were numbered, I made Salem my home with my family, and hope to stay here for a long while; or, at least until the I hear back from Santa about becoming a proper Christmas elf.
Caitlyn
Cook
Caitlyn is cooler than the other side of a pillow and at times is referred to as “the drunk Sheryl Crow.” She is working at the Gulu to save money towards her dream in life: to own a puppy petting zoo, where she will own every type of dog and let them run free on her multi-acred farm.
Danielle
Server
Danielle has an extreme aversion to being captured on film. In fact, the photographer of this photo barely made it out alive! This Scorpio gal enjoys eating dry Cheerios with M&Ms, takes Scrabble way too seriously, is a little afraid of fish and umbrellas, and is in love with Christmas because she truly believes that for a brief moment in time, the world really does become a better place and miracles really can happen. Her life goals include riding an elephant, saving the world from the Hamburglar, living in Cinderella’s castle at Disney World, and becoming Mrs. Santa Claus.
Danny
Barista
Danny grew up in Lynn, MA to great acclaim. He defeated the giants there and took a really long shower. Legend has it, after shedding his skin in Amherst, he endorsed bad art and squishy tofu to fund a secret plan to conquer the espresso machine.
He plots somewhere in Salem.
Devin
Barista
I’m a star! I’m on top! Somebody bring me a ham!
Erin
Barista
Erin loves unicorns. She enjoys high stakes gambling in Chinatown in her spare time. She is saving up the money she makes at the Gulu to attend college as a puppetry major and become the Master of Puppets.
Jarrid
Cook
Hello I am Jarrid I work here at the fabulous Gulu Gulu. 1000 years ago things were very different, perhaps that thought of a European style cafe would be strange and scary to the townsfolk of Salem. Fortunately we can now enjoy the luxuries of an interesting cafe and modern technology. Truthfully I would like to use this chance to tell people to listen to the Beach Boys and watch my public access show on channel 33 Verizon every night at midnight (except Sunday). Stop in sometime and I’ll make you lunch (unless its Tuesday or Monday).

Jeremy
Barista
Some say he never blinks, and that he roams around the woods at night foraging for wolves… Some also say that his heart ticks like a watch, and that he’s confused by stairs… He has spent a spring break driving to Kansas and he once went to Germany for a weekend. He races bicycles and cars. He’s a self proclaimed beer snob and will happily discuss his mustache or the names of the origin of various styles of beers such as Russian Imperial Stout or India Pale ale….
Kevin
Cook
I wake up, I go for a run, I make awesome food, I go home and make art, run a bit more, then do it all over again.
Kyle
Dishwasher
When I’m not doing dishes for the great Gulu Gulu Cafe, I’m either writing some zany space epics, listening to my favorite band, Muse, practicing with my band, Auburndale or studying to get into a good film school. I’m chill. I’m shy. And that’s that (I think?).
Lindsay
Cook
Lindsay is an avid writer and sandwich construction worker. She aspires to either be Anthony Bourdain or live in a house in Prague with all of the puppies. Her favorite band is Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and her favorite place in the world is Paros Island, Greece where she lived for three months. She studies creative writing at Endicott College, but is currently moving to Salem and is just trying to make it in this lovely town of witches and hipsters. She’s waiting to hit it big with her autobiography entitled “The Almost Perfect Crepe.” Her best friend an over-sized silly golden doodle.
Lucas
Sound guy
Lucas is from Texas.
He likes coffee and sitting in chairs.
He has two cats.
He is afraid of salesmen and Hulk Hogan.
Lucy
Server
Cats are my best friends. I love my son Guy, listening to music, gardening, and knitting. Im always saying positive because the universe is always watching!
Margarita
Hostess
Margarita was born in post-Communist Georgia (really!) and has brought her Soviet beliefs to Gulu as hostess – free tables for all! Except for when they’re full, then you’ll have to hang out with her while you wait. When she’s not working weekends at the cafe, her part time job in IT for a medical research company, or attending college in Boston she enjoys walking the beach in Swampscott with her fellow Russian old lady brethren and reading books older than they are. You also won’t be able to get rid of her if you dare walk your dog by the cafe
Mckenzie
Server
Born and raised in Boulder Colorado, I’m an avid fanatic of snowboarding, hiking, camping, swimming and everything outdoors! Goldfish are my favorite snack and my favorite band is Old Crow Medicine Show.
Michelle
Server
Michelle is known amongst her friends as their real life version of Michael Scott. Her favorite aspects of life include the sun, good conversations, Spongebob, swimming, drinking coffee, acting and singing, and improv. Upside, inside out, she’s livin la vida loca.
“We’ll recline up high above the breeze
dart about, float on wind with ease.
Pass the days doing only as we please,
that’s what living is for.
Some things are meant to be, the clouds moving fast and free
the way it takes hold of me, no matter what I do.”
-”Some Things are Meant to Be”, Little Women
Mike
Server
After four years in the wilds of upstate New York, Mike trekked though gorges, bogs, and half of Europe to end up back home in Marblehead. Now he’s biding his time waiting for summer so he can waste away on the beach. He hopes to someday make the world a better place inspiring people to buy local food and grow their own dinner! Recently became a reader so suggest some good books!
Natalie
Server/ Barista
Favorite authors: Shakespeare and Jane Austen;
Favorite Places: London, UK and Portland, OR;
Life Goal: Never stop doing theatre;
Miscellaneous Information: I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, AKA the land of coffee and beer, so I have no choice but to be obsessed with both! (Also…I’m secretly British but don’t tell anyone…)
Nicole
Server
Nicole was born in West Virginia and can do the worm. She once jumped out of a plane even though she is deadly afraid of flying. She came face to face with a mouse in the Grand Tetons. Now she servers the Gulu-lovers of the world!
Noel
Cook
Hi I’m Noel, a brewer, musician, gentleman, and scholar. Some of my achievements include sending a weather balloon into space with a $100 budget and building a drum set out of a suitcase, and a ukulele out of a cigar box. I’m pretty cool.
Phil
Dishwasher
After traveling through time and space with the Doctor I settled down in Salem. Now working at the Gulu it seems that my adventures continue. Aliens have landed nearby and serve pizza and I know it will be a very interesting time again.
Ryan
Cook
I enjoy most things but I could do without Dan Aykroyd. I can barely whistle, but I can draw a mean octagon… diagonally. If you were to ask me about the angles I prefer I would reply obtuse. And if it weren’t for Jane Fonda I’d be in Colorado right now. Aside from that Jesus is a pretty solid dude. Not much of a golfer though.
Sam
Cook
Sam’s highest aspiration is to be super woman. If she isn’t keeping busy then she feels as if the day is wasted. She embraces challenges, animals of all shape (with the exception of the hissing, stinging ants of South America but do ants really count anyways?), books, and outdoor adventures in the woods.
SJ
Server
Massachusetts raised and Austin bound! SJ is following her dreams of becoming an ASL interpreting Cow-gal and will be leaving us shortly. Come by and say hi before the South takes her.
Steven
Cook
In 1975, before graduation Steven Gonzalez left Harvard to form Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen. They planned to develop software for the newly emerging personal computer market and the rest was history! But now he enjoys playing with his son, drawing, skateboarding, hanging with friends and family.
Also he doesn’t always drink adult beverages but when he does he enjoys a warm glass of milk! Stay thirsty my friends.

Tori graduated from MassArt with a degree in fibers…which means she can pretty much school you in any granny craft you can think of. When she’s not crocheting afghans, you can find her running and baking vegan treats, usually not at the same time.
