A New Mascot Cometh!
May 2, 2013
Allow us to introduce the newest face of the Gulu-Gulu Cafe: Louie! Lou is a 3 year old French Bulldog mix from deep in the heart of Texas. He was rescued from a household that just didn’t appreciate his tremendous demeanor and so we decided to welcome him into our home. Since Charlie has been spending the majority of his mascot duties as the Space Pug at our sister shop (Flying Saucer) Louie will begin his training immediately under the tutulage of our Boston Terrier Jack!
Of course our good friend Greg Orfanos is painting a portrait of Mr. Louie (which should be up soon!). And no, this does not mean that a new restaurant is coming anytime soon. Maybe later though.
The One Fund
May 1, 2013
As all of our readers know, Boston was struck by a terrorist attack on April 15th. The Gulu and Saucer donated 10% of our sales last Tuesday to the One Fund to help raise money for those injured in the attacks. As of this writing over $27 million dollars has been raised through corporate and individual donations. If you wanted to donate but weren’t able to make it to our restaurants last week please go to https://secure.onefundboston.org. No amount is too small - Thanks.

August News & Updates!
August 2, 2012

Man this summer is just flying by! Couple quick announcements:
Gulu-Gulu cafe Salem turned 5 years old last Thursday July 26th! We had a tremendous party, excellent beer from Fisherman’s Brewery, crazy music from Black Dog Brother, and the most magnificent cake designed and made by Sherri Michaud. It really was wonderful to see friends old and new here at the cafe to celebrate with us – thanks to everyone who came out! Our good friend Mary Shea took a ton of pix from throughout the evening. They can be viewed here.
We have some new wicked cool Jack shirts in stock designed by our friend the amazing Mister Reusch! Available online or at the Gulu!
The Flying Saucer Pizza Company is nearly completed! We’ve been practicing on our amazing pizza making skills over the last couple weeks and I have to say… YUM!!! There are rumors abound that the Saucer will be landing TOMORROW August 3rd at 11AM!!!
Our new website developed and designed by Ryan Coughlin of Cat On The Couch Productions is going LIVE any moment now! Seriously – any moment now! check www.GuluGuluCafe.com to see it!
And lastly I suppose I have to talk about the dogs. Or lack of dogs. As many of you know Gulu has always been a dog friendly establishment. Every summer patrons are known to bring their pups to our patio and enjoy lunch or a beer off the park. It’s quite cool. Sadly last month we were notified that it is against the MA Health Code to invite pooches onto Gulu’s patio. Chaos ensued and the sky fell. Salem Patch wrote a piece on the situation. CBS did a news report. WBUR, NPR, and the local FOX affiliate all talked about it. It got kinda silly.
Well I’m happy to announce that Salem’s Health Department came up with a variance that will allow pups back onto Gulu’s patio in the very near future and perhaps as early as this weekend. Hurray! Salem rocks!
